Lovely In Lace

8EAD8287-97C4-4E27-808C-6FC6E9EBFB8DHappy Monday! My hubby is starting week 3 of Ob/Gyn.  He has been working nights, so I have barely seen him this week. As hard as it is to not have a “normal” marriage right now, I am so thankful because Jake finally graduates in less than a year now! I know residency will not be all fun and games, but we’re both so ready for school to be over.

One of my favorite things I cannot get enough of lately is lace. I am constantly finding myself drawn to lace dresses. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I’ve worn several lace dresses this spring. I wanted to do a round up and share my 3 favorite lace dresses I have bought this season. These are all still available and I LOVE them.

Dress: Here, Red Version Silver Chandelier Earrings: Here (Color Bar-Style Greta, stones drusy and slate), Similar Glitter Bow Heel: Here Clutch: Here

I bought this dress with no real event in mind to wear it to. On the day of my hubby’s med school formal, I made a last minute decision to wear it. It worked out perfect. The thing I love about it is that it’s so versatile. It can be dressed up or down. In the formal case, I dressed it up with dressy silver shoes and a clutch. I also wore it on a date night with nude block heels and pink tassel earrings.

It is perfect for a date night, cocktail party/ spring wedding, brunch, or a bridal shower. For a brunch or luncheon, I would suggest a little cardigan over the shoulder to make it a little more conservative. Also, I would recommend more of a sandal with a heel.

The best part about this dress is the straps are adjustable. I got a size small and it fit perfectly. This dress also comes in red and is gorgeous. Too bad I don’t have an event to wear it to 😉

Lacey Lace Halter Sheath Dress

I initially bought this one for my hubby’s formal, but changed my mind last minute. Here are more pictures of me wearing it in our Jord Watches blog post. It is the most dressy of the 3 and is just gorgeous. I love the halter details. It is perfect for spring weddings or a brunch with a cardigan. It is a midi length which is very in right now. I paired it with statement earrings and bow heels. This dress is true to size. This picture below shows the fit better.

This dress is one of my favorites. I love that it incorporates current trends with the pom pom and bell sleeve details. I did a full blog post on this dress here. I paired this dress with rock stud dupes and statement earrings. This dress also comes in black and is super cute. With this particular retailer, their items tend to run small. However, this item has a larger fit, so I went down a size. If you are taller, I would recommend staying with your typical size as it is a little on the short side.

I tried the Sonia V-Neck Sleeveless Block Lace Sheath Dress and loved it. It’s on sale now. (Excuse my selfie, but it’s too good to not share)

Being a southern girl, we love to monogram/ personalize everything. I grew up having little jumpers with my name embroidered on them, so it is no surprise I love to personalize anything and everything. Even my wine glasses are personalized now!

As Reese Witherspoon brilliantly said, “My sheets are monogrammed, so is my silverware and pretty much everything else I own. My rule is, if it’s not moving-monogram it.” This is the typical southern lady’s philosophy.

Recently Name Necklaces reached out to me to partner and it was a no brainer. I was not sure what the quality would be like, since they are so affordable, but it was amazing! The necklaces are 925 sterling silver and are plated with gold or rose gold if you choose those colors.

Many of their necklaces are on sale today, so make sure to get one before the sale ends.

The best thing about Name Necklaces is you get 15% off your first purchase and free shipping on all orders. They also feature a very fair return policy (noted on the bottom of their website). These necklaces are all custom made and you get to preview the necklace before you purchase.

I picked an infinity necklace with my hubby and my initials. It is so special because the infinity symbol is so symbolic and our initials are on it.

I also picked a silver monogram necklace as well. This one is my favorite, since it has the fancy font.

My third necklace is the Carrie necklace. It has my name on it and makes me channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw.

Graduation season is around the corner and these make a perfect gift! They also are great for a bride to be with her new initials, or any girl friend!

Our Proposal Story

May 4, 2013 was a very special day for many reasons. Jake and I both graduated from Oklahoma State University, and it was also the day Jake asked me to be his wife. In honor of our 4th anniversary of my hubby proposing, I thought it would be fun to share our proposal story.

Our Story:

Jake and I had been dating since my sophomore year of college and we were finally about to graduate. For months we had been talking about getting engaged soon. I was in a sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha) in college and kept hinting to Jake that I wanted to have a candlelight ceremony (a way sorority girls announce their engagement to their sisters). I also expressed that I wanted to have my family around to celebrate after we got engaged. My hubby said he didn’t know if the candlelight would happen or not, but he had the perfect day in mind. I hate surprises, so I kept trying to get him to give me hints. He would not crack though!

I kept daydreaming that he would be proposing soon and even created a Pinterest board with the style of ring I wanted. I really thought he would propose on either the anniversary of the day we met (March 27, 2010), on graduation day, or during our upcoming Hawaiian vacation. The day we met went by with no proposal, so I kept thinking it could be any day. Weeks went by and still no proposal. Graduation was coming up, so I had my suspicions it might be then. I asked my mom if I should get my nails done because I was trying to see if she would ruin the surprise.  She said it would be nice to, but didn’t make me convinced I needed to get them done. So I didn’t get them done, thinking that if I did get them done, I would jinx it and that wouldn’t end up being the day he proposed.

Graduation day was cold and rainy. My hubby picked me up before the ceremony so we could graduate together. I was suspicious he was going to propose right before the ceremony.  But the ceremony went on and no proposal. At this point I was a little down, since I made my mind up it was not going to happen that day.

After graduation was over, we were planning on meeting up with our families at Theta Pond to take pictures. If you have never been to OSU, it’s a really pretty pond in the center of campus. On the way to Theta Pond, we passed through a pretty garden. I was a little down that he hadn’t proposed, so I wasn’t very talkative. Jake began talking about how he couldn’t believe we just graduated and how we have made so many memories at OSU. I agreed, but didn’t say much. He finally got my attention when I noticed he was starting to get choked up. He began talking about the next chapter of our lives. He then went on to say “we might as well make one more memory at OSU”. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately began crying and of course said yes.  It was the perfect moment and was very symbolic. I didn’t get my candlelight, but May 4th was one of the best days of my life for many reasons.

Dressing For A Cold/Rainy Spring Day

IMG_9340IMG_9329IMG_9330IMG_9332IMG_9334IMG_9335Happy Monday and Happy May! This weekend was just what I needed! We had crazy storms on Friday night and Saturday morning. This made our power go out, so we had to transfer all of our food into our Yeti coolers. It’s funny how things like this work out, since it inspired me to clean the expired food out of the fridge. I then got on a cleaning kick and organized various aspects of the house like our Tupperware containers (I’ve been putting that off). My hubby has his Pediatrics rotation shelf exam on Friday, and the weather forced us to stay in and be productive. The end of Pediatrics is coming at the perfect time, since we will be leaving Friday for my cousin’s wedding. We are excited for a little getaway!

Lately our weather has been more on the chilly side and we have had tons of storms. When it’s rainy, even if it’s not cold outside, I still get cold. Recently, on a rainy day I met some local bloggers for brunch.  I didn’t want to let the dreary weather get me down, so I wore a bright moto jacket to brighten my day.  I find the colors that I wear effect my mood. Since the jacket is very bright, I accessorized with a black top, as well as dark jeans and added leopard shoes and a statement necklace. Adding statement pieces like leopard and a big necklace can really dress up jeans.

It’s All About Embroidery

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start! I don’t know about you, but this weekend flew by for us (they always seem to). On Friday, we went to my hubby’s med school ball and just relaxed the rest of the weekend. He only has 8 more weeks until he starts his 4th year of med school. We are both so ready!

You may have noticed that I am not doing as many blog posts as normal. I am trying to work on a new way to switch things up and maybe drop down to two blog posts weekly instead of three. I am very overwhelmed between blogging and working full-time, so this should help.

IMG_9022IMG_1206One trend I am obsessed with is embroidery.  It’s all about embroidery for summer and spring. It is everywhere from jeans to dresses. I am so glad it’s back because it reminds me of my childhood. I will never forget this little embroidered denim jacket that I had and some jeans with pink flowers. I probably still have them at my parents house.

The thing that I love about embroidery is that it incorporates so many fun colors. Bright colors make me happy, so I jumped on board with this trend quick. It reminds me of a fiesta!IMG_1205

When I wear something embroidered, I like to accessorize with colors that are in the embroidery pattern. Recently we had beautiful weather on a date night, so I decided to wear my new skirt. I decided to play up the pink and tone it down with this black ruffle bodysuit (I promise I don’t wear it everyday).  FYI, this skirt runs small, so I recommend sizing up. I also recommend wearing a bodysuit with it, since it lays better with the skirt.

Trending: The Bodysuit

IMG_7933IMG_7973IMG_7947IMG_7967IMG_7941Happy Thursday! I don’t know about y’all, but I feel like I need a vacation badly. I think it’s because my hubby is on a rotation where he goes in before the sun comes up and I feel like during the week I barely see him. It could just be my lack of sleep lately 😉 I am always more creative at night and always seem to wake up at night even if I am exhausted all day!

Anyways, one trend that I jumped on late was the bodysuit. I never in a million years thought they would be flattering, so I never tried one. I also thought they seemed weird until I saw this ruffle off the shoulder one. The ruffles were what spoke to me, so I gave it a chance. Let me just tell you, they are a major game changer!

The thing that I love about bodysuits are they give you the “tucked in” look without having a lot of fabric that gets bunched up. When I wear skirts, it always seems like I am constantly fixing my top, but with a bodysuit it gives you the perfect tucked in appearance.

I have paired my bodysuit with jeans, palazzo pants and skirts. They are so versatile! I have a feeling that I am going to be buying several more in the near future.

What is a trend that you’re loving lately?

Traveling In Comfort and Style

IMG_1183IMG_8518IMG_1188IMG_1189IMG_8519
Happy Monday! I wanted to start off by saying thank you to everyone who commented and reached out to me to congratulate me on getting accepted into Reward Style. I have been so overwhelmed with support and I want to thank you all because without your support I wouldn’t be here. I am planning on doing a post in the next few weeks with the story of how I started my blog and also a post about blogging tips. I am not sure if it will be combined into one post or two separate ones, but stay tuned.IMG_1185IMG_1186

Last weekend I traveled down to Texas to see my family and attend my cousin’s bridal shower near Austin. I wanted to share my travel look. When I travel, the main thing I want is to be comfortable. When you’re sitting down for hours, nothing is worse than wearing a tight pair of jeans and being miserable. This is why I like to wear loose dresses or comfortable pants when I travel. It was a little chilly that weekend, so I wore this adorable short sleeve t-shirt dress with a denim jacket and a colorful scarf. 337 Brand sent it to me, and I really like it and think it’s great quality! I sized up for a boyfriend look, but I do think I should have stuck with my regular size. The dress was a little too big on me, but with a jacket it wasn’t noticeable. When traveling I always like to wear a jacket, since the airplane is usually cold.

IMG_1184

This dress is such a good staple piece. I can see myself pairing it with a long cardigan and boots for fall, and I can also see me adding a fitted leather jacket for a dressier look.

The Perfect Pink Lace Dress

IMG_8551IMG_8550IMG_7714IMG_8552

Happy Monday! I cannot believe Easter is on Sunday. I made our brunch reservations last week at a restaurant called Cheever’s. If you ever visit OKC, I highly recommend it!  I am so excited to celebrate this holiday that is important to my Christian faith. I’m hoping that my hubby gets done with his weekend rounds early. You never know with his medical school schedule.

IMG_6961
This weekend, I took Friday off. It was seriously much needed to have an extra day off. My mom and I went shopping at North Park Mall in Dallas and we went to lunch at The Neiman Marcus Mermaid Bar, as is our tradition. I didn’t buy a whole lot, but it’s always fun to look! After a quick stop in Dallas, we woke up early and headed to Lake LBJ in Austin for my beautiful cousin’s couple’s shower. I am so excited that my baby cousin is getting married. Unfortunately, my hubby couldn’t come down (go figure). He had to work on Saturday for his pediatric rotation. It is hard to go to things like couple’s showers or parties without your man, but it’s the sacrifice we have made to ensure a successful future (with much more free time at that point!).

Since Easter is around the corner, I wanted to share what I will most likely be wearing. I bought this dress at SheIn and am obsessed with it. This dress can go from a wedding to Easter Sunday. I will be wearing a little navy trench coat on Sunday, since it looks like it might be chilly. For Easter, I would accessorize with different earrings, since these are more for a night look.

IMG_1051IMG_8549

This lace dress is gorgeous, so I wanted to let it be the focal point. I wore my hair half up to show off some gorgeous earrings and wore my favorite rock stud heels. They’re not Valentino’s, although I get asked that all the time. They’re great dupes! I accessorized with my favorite little bag.

What are you wearing for Easter?

Happy Friday!  I am so excited because I am off from work today. I am flying down to see my family and going to my cousin’s bridal shower. An extra day off is much need! My poor hubby has to work this weekend, so unfortunately he will be home alone this weekend. I guess that’s part of med school 🙁

I have to share a funny story: the other day I was trying on outfits for an upcoming shoot and I didn’t think my hubby was paying attention. I tried on a white dress that was a potential Easter look and the dress was way too big and was super frumpy. I hadn’t even looked in the mirror yet and my hubby told me I looked like a Sunday school teacher. I guess at least he’s honest!

Date night is around the corner, so I thought I would share one of my recent date night looks. We already had our date since hubby is home alone, and no, I didn’t wear the “Sunday school teacher outfit.”

I wore these floral palazzo pants and this black body suit on our date. To be honest, I never thought I could pull off palazzo pants so I’ve avoided them. It wasn’t until I went to Target and “accidentally” ended up in the clothing section that I found these. I thought they were super cute and tried them on.

I think the key to palazzo pants is how you style them. When trying them on at home, I tried about three tops before I liked my outfit. With these, it was all about finding a fitted top to make it look like a jumpsuit.

The top that I am wearing is actually a body suit. I never in a million years thought I would try a body suit, but on that same Target trip I found this adorable ruffle one. I am going to have to invest in more bodysuits because it makes the shirt lay better tucked in. My husband wasn’t 100% in love with this look, but I loved it and that’s all that matters, right?

What are you doing this weekend?

Work Wear Wednesday

IMG_8155IMG_8154IMG_8187IMG_8153IMG_8156

Happy Wednesday! We are half way through the work week! I am counting down the days until the weekend. One thing I especially struggle with both working a full time job and blogging is lack of time. Especially in the morning, since I am sooo not a morning person. Organization is key for me and one thing I do each Sunday is pick out each work outfit for the upcoming week. This is a major time saver for me. Also, it saves me from the “I have nothing to wear” panic when I’m in a hurry.

When it comes to work wear, I tend to be less inspired and I get bored of my clothes quickly. I don’t like to buy a lot work clothes, so I like to use what I already have and change it up.

IMG_8194

On Monday, I was not happy for the weekend to be over and I was feeling unmotivated, so I picked out a more fun look. I notice this helps with my attitude! I wore this new tweed skirt that I got during the Loft sale. I wanted to share it because it shows you can wear a statement necklace and a print and still be professional. I paired it with all navy and a pop of blush, since it’s the big color for spring. I walk a lot at work, so I paired it with low nude colored shoes. In the future, I plan to wear the skirt with a blush top, a red necklace, or a white top to change it up. Even emerald green or yellow would work too.

IMG_8188

I love to incorporate bright colors and prints into my work attire so I don’t get bored. I am very creative and drawn to bright things. I work in marketing, so I need to be a little more creative than some other occupations. I love to wear bold prints like leopard and bright colors. I have found that statement necklaces or colorful cardigans help my wardrobe stay fresh and less boring.
