Lovely In Lace

8EAD8287-97C4-4E27-808C-6FC6E9EBFB8DHappy Monday! My hubby is starting week 3 of Ob/Gyn.  He has been working nights, so I have barely seen him this week. As hard as it is to not have a “normal” marriage right now, I am so thankful because Jake finally graduates in less than a year now! I know residency will not be all fun and games, but we’re both so ready for school to be over.

One of my favorite things I cannot get enough of lately is lace. I am constantly finding myself drawn to lace dresses. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed I’ve worn several lace dresses this spring. I wanted to do a round up and share my 3 favorite lace dresses I have bought this season. These are all still available and I LOVE them.

Hollow Out Fit & Flare Lace Cami Dress

Dress: Here, Red Version Pink Tassel Earrings: Almost Identical, Similar, Similar (these are too fun) Nude Block Heel: Here Bag: Old-Tory Burch, Similar

Dress: Here, Red Version Silver Chandelier Earrings: Here (Color Bar-Style Greta, stones drusy and slate), Similar Glitter Bow Heel: Here Clutch: Here

I bought this dress with no real event in mind to wear it to. On the day of my hubby’s med school formal, I made a last minute decision to wear it. It worked out perfect. The thing I love about it is that it’s so versatile. It can be dressed up or down. In the formal case, I dressed it up with dressy silver shoes and a clutch. I also wore it on a date night with nude block heels and pink tassel earrings.

It is perfect for a date night, cocktail party/ spring wedding, brunch, or a bridal shower. For a brunch or luncheon, I would suggest a little cardigan over the shoulder to make it a little more conservative. Also, I would recommend more of a sandal with a heel.

The best part about this dress is the straps are adjustable. I got a size small and it fit perfectly. This dress also comes in red and is gorgeous. Too bad I don’t have an event to wear it to 😉

Lacey Lace Halter Sheath Dress

Dress: Here Earrings: Here (Color Bar-Style Greta, stones drusy and slate), Bracelet: Here Shoes: Similar Bag: Similar

I initially bought this one for my hubby’s formal, but changed my mind last minute. Here are more pictures of me wearing it in our Jord Watches blog post. It is the most dressy of the 3 and is just gorgeous. I love the halter details. It is perfect for spring weddings or a brunch with a cardigan. It is a midi length which is very in right now. I paired it with statement earrings and bow heels. This dress is true to size. This picture below shows the fit better.

Crochet Pom-Pom Trim Sheer Lace Dress

Dress: Here, Black Version Earrings: Here, Similar (same look, but lower price) Bag: Here Shoes: Here

This dress is one of my favorites. I love that it incorporates current trends with the pom pom and bell sleeve details. I did a full blog post on this dress here. I paired this dress with rock stud dupes and statement earrings. This dress also comes in black and is super cute. With this particular retailer, their items tend to run small. However, this item has a larger fit, so I went down a size. If you are taller, I would recommend staying with your typical size as it is a little on the short side.

I tried the Sonia V-Neck Sleeveless Block Lace Sheath Dress and loved it. It’s on sale now. (Excuse my selfie, but it’s too good to not share)

Our Proposal Story

May 4, 2013 was a very special day for many reasons. Jake and I both graduated from Oklahoma State University, and it was also the day Jake asked me to be his wife. In honor of our 4th anniversary of my hubby proposing, I thought it would be fun to share our proposal story.

Our Story:

Jake and I had been dating since my sophomore year of college and we were finally about to graduate. For months we had been talking about getting engaged soon. I was in a sorority (Zeta Tau Alpha) in college and kept hinting to Jake that I wanted to have a candlelight ceremony (a way sorority girls announce their engagement to their sisters). I also expressed that I wanted to have my family around to celebrate after we got engaged. My hubby said he didn’t know if the candlelight would happen or not, but he had the perfect day in mind. I hate surprises, so I kept trying to get him to give me hints. He would not crack though!

I kept daydreaming that he would be proposing soon and even created a Pinterest board with the style of ring I wanted. I really thought he would propose on either the anniversary of the day we met (March 27, 2010), on graduation day, or during our upcoming Hawaiian vacation. The day we met went by with no proposal, so I kept thinking it could be any day. Weeks went by and still no proposal. Graduation was coming up, so I had my suspicions it might be then. I asked my mom if I should get my nails done because I was trying to see if she would ruin the surprise.  She said it would be nice to, but didn’t make me convinced I needed to get them done. So I didn’t get them done, thinking that if I did get them done, I would jinx it and that wouldn’t end up being the day he proposed.

Graduation day was cold and rainy. My hubby picked me up before the ceremony so we could graduate together. I was suspicious he was going to propose right before the ceremony.  But the ceremony went on and no proposal. At this point I was a little down, since I made my mind up it was not going to happen that day.

After graduation was over, we were planning on meeting up with our families at Theta Pond to take pictures. If you have never been to OSU, it’s a really pretty pond in the center of campus. On the way to Theta Pond, we passed through a pretty garden. I was a little down that he hadn’t proposed, so I wasn’t very talkative. Jake began talking about how he couldn’t believe we just graduated and how we have made so many memories at OSU. I agreed, but didn’t say much. He finally got my attention when I noticed he was starting to get choked up. He began talking about the next chapter of our lives. He then went on to say “we might as well make one more memory at OSU”. He got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I immediately began crying and of course said yes.  It was the perfect moment and was very symbolic. I didn’t get my candlelight, but May 4th was one of the best days of my life for many reasons.

Now we are about to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary in June! You can view our wedding feature here.

Dressing For A Cold/Rainy Spring Day

IMG_9340IMG_9329IMG_9330IMG_9332IMG_9334IMG_9335Happy Monday and Happy May! This weekend was just what I needed! We had crazy storms on Friday night and Saturday morning. This made our power go out, so we had to transfer all of our food into our Yeti coolers. It’s funny how things like this work out, since it inspired me to clean the expired food out of the fridge. I then got on a cleaning kick and organized various aspects of the house like our Tupperware containers (I’ve been putting that off). My hubby has his Pediatrics rotation shelf exam on Friday, and the weather forced us to stay in and be productive. The end of Pediatrics is coming at the perfect time, since we will be leaving Friday for my cousin’s wedding. We are excited for a little getaway!

Lately our weather has been more on the chilly side and we have had tons of storms. When it’s rainy, even if it’s not cold outside, I still get cold. Recently, on a rainy day I met some local bloggers for brunch.  I didn’t want to let the dreary weather get me down, so I wore a bright moto jacket to brighten my day.  I find the colors that I wear effect my mood. Since the jacket is very bright, I accessorized with a black top, as well as dark jeans and added leopard shoes and a statement necklace. Adding statement pieces like leopard and a big necklace can really dress up jeans.

Happy Wednesday! This week is starting to look up, since we are halfway to the weekend. So far, being very organized has helped this week not be so chaotic. I have been busy with work and blogging, but it has been much more manageable.

The weather is a little chilly here still, so I have found leather jackets to be a go-to piece lately. When putting this look together, I couldn’t really decide what to wear. Leopard is a neutral to me and pink is my favorite color, so that’s where I got my inspiration.

One thing I’m loving lately is mixing a classic dress with an edgy piece, such as a leather jacket. I paired a classic A line dress with with this jacket and added a pop of pink to give it a little color. To make this look a little trendy, I wore lace up shoes.

Also, I don’t know if you noticed, but I FINALLY have a logo. Please let me know what you think!

Neutral Colors To Transition Into Spring

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but this week I feel like I’ve been go go go and not a lot of sleep. My hubby has been super helpful, since he is on an elective rotation. That’s the only way I’ve stayed sane. I am going to get organized this weekend, so next week won’t be so overwhelming.

Our weather is finally starting to warm up, so it’s time for transitional outfits. I wore this fun, yet edgy outfit recently and had a lot of fun with it. It was a little edgy, so I asked my husband if it even looked like my style. I think it was the choker that threw me off, but it brought me back to my 90s Britney Spears days.

On days where you don’t quite need a coat, but you need a little more than just a long sleeve top, this would be perfect. I have loved leather leggings all fall and winter and think they’re a great way to transition into spring. The sandals and the light vest help it to transition into spring, while the leather leggings will keep you warmer.

What do you have planned this weekend?

Trending For Spring: Off The Shoulder Tops

Happy Hump Day! My hubby started his Anesthesia elective rotation on Monday and it’s been a change of pace from his normal rotations. He’s loving it! Elective rotations don’t have letter grades, so he hasn’t had to do a lot of studying. He’s been extra helpful around the house, which is much appreciated. It’s nice to have a little help every once in a while. Also, he just found out that he got an A on his Neurology rotation. That’s 5 As so far this year. I’m so happy for him and proud of him!img_4262

It’s officially March, so that means the first day of spring is in 20 days. I may have jumped the gun a little with this outfit, but recently we had a day where the weather was in the high 70’s, so we went to meet up with some friends on a patio and I wanted to dress for the weather.img_4242img_4267

I decided to break the whole you can’t wear white until Easter rule. I wore this fun long sleeve black floral off the shoulder top that I found recently found. Although it is not technically spring yet, I thought the black made it a little more transitional. Off the shoulder tops/ dresses are everywhere this year and are a trend I’m loving. This top does run large, I sized down for a more fitted look. I decided to pair the look with pops of pink, since that was in the floral pattern. I wore pink statement earrings, a pink bracelet, and my new pink purse.img_4255

A Classic Black and White Look

It’s Monday, so back to work it is. We had one of the best weekends we’ve had in a while. Jake was in between rotations, so it was amazing. I was seriously wondering if this is what it is like for normal couples. We usually get to do a quick dinner date most weeks, but after that it’s really the only time I get to spend with him.

On Friday we met up at the gym after work and then Jake grilled out. It was so amazing to not be the one cooking dinner for once. On Saturday we slept in a little and I went to one of my friends that I went to college with’s baby shower. She is having twins; a boy and a girl. How perfect is that? I wore this little pink top and a black skirt that I’ve had forever. I wanted to look lady-like, so I paired it with pearls.

After the shower we went to dinner in a fun area called The Paseo District. It almost feels like you’re not in OKC anymore. It’s super cute and artsy. We went to Paseo Grill. It was dark in the restaurant and there were curtains in front of each table, which created a romantic and intimate vibe. It was a great pick!
I wore this classic little black and white number. It was chilly this weekend, so I grabbed some tights and my favorite little A-line black leather skirt. I got this fun white cropped bell sleeve recently and have already worn it a couple of times. It’s so cute and it incorporates the bell sleeve trend. The back is also super cute! When I was supposed to be grocery shopping, I found this cute silver statement necklace. I had been eyeing a very similar one on BaubleBar’s website, but it was a little out of my price range. When I found this one I had to have it. I even told my husband where I got the necklace at dinner and he was very surprised.

On Sunday, we did a late brunch then gym and errands. I am so glad my hubby will be on electives the next month. We have been brain storming cheap dates because I feel like we’re going to spend too much money otherwise.

A Pop Of Powder Blue

At last…we have made it to Friday! This weekend will be extra special since my hubby is in between rotations and will be on a straight month of two consecutive 2-week elective rotations. He will be doing Anesthesia, which right now is his main interest, and then Dermatology to see if he likes it. Neuro has honestly been the most miserable rotation, so I’m excited for brighter days ahead. It’s very fitting that Neuro is ending just as spring is about to begin!

Spring is around the corner and moto jackets are all the rage right now. When I was shopping not too long ago, I found this amazing moto jacket in powder blue. Moto jackets are very trendy, so I was excited to find this one for cheap. Powder blue is a color I don’t wear too often, but I like it. It is subtle and perfect for spring.

I paired this outfit with some cobalt blue accessories to add some brightness to the outfit. I also wore my new favorite white bell sleeve top. This would be another perfect casual Friday look. I’m excited to wear this little jacket with other pieces in my closet. The best part of this look was my nails matched my jacket and I didn’t do it on purpose. These bracelets are also 20% off with code LIFEOFAMEDSCHOOLWIFE.

A Pop of Blush, The Pretty New Color For Spring

Because it’s Wednesday, and “on Wednesday we wear pink,” (Mean Girls is the best), I decided to wear this cute little blush fringe wrap. The wrap kept me warm and helped me feel put together.

I found this wrap at Target when I was supposed to be grocery shopping. The quality is very good and I am happy with the purchase. It comes in several neutral colors, but blush is the color of the season so I went for it. (The blush unfortunately is unavailable, but there is a gorgeous blue color available. I have also linked some very similar blush options.) Blush and fringe are two of my favorite things right now. I love blush because it gives you a pop of color, but is very understated. It’s a perfect spring color!

This wrap is the perfect way to transition from cold to warmer days. I wore mine with a long sleeve top since it was chilly, but it would work with short sleeves as the weather gets in the 60s. I also paired it with my favorite riding boots and a glam statement necklace. This necklace is sold out, but I have linked a very similar one. It’s a great addition to any outfit.

I got these boots about 5 years ago when I was in college and they have held up beautifully! I feel like I have got my money’s worth for them. This Friday is casual Friday, so this would be a perfect pick!

How is everyone’s week going so far?

Beating the Monday Blues

Happy Monday everyone, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Jake has his Neuro final this coming Friday, so we didn’t do a whole lot this weekend. Jake was on call until late Friday, so once he got home it was basically bed time. On Saturday we met up with some friends for a quick dinner and Jake was off to bed by 9 p.m. He had to be at the hospital early for morning rounds. This will be a very busy week for him, but I am thankful that the next month will be pretty relaxed. This month long clerkship has felt like 6 months since I rarely get to see Jake.

I want to take a second to brag on him for getting an A in his family medicine clerkship. He has got all A’s this year. I’m such a proud wife! I went to my doctor’s office the other day because I had an ear infection. The family doctor that I see was also Jake’s attending physician during his clerkship. When the doctor came in the room to see me he immediately knew I was Jake’s wife and went on and on about how smart and quick at learning he is. I’ve always known Jake was smart, but it is always nice to hear it from a very well respected physician!

Last weekend, I wore this little number to the OKC Thunder game. It was a beautiful day, but I knew it would be chilly at night so I brought a little leather jacket. This leather jacket has been one of my favorites because the camel brown matches literally everything. I do want to note the jacket runs a little small. Since the OKC Thunder’s main color is cobalt, I wore my favorite off the shoulder dress. Off the shoulder tops/dresses are really in right now and I love them for summer and spring.

Since it’s still February, I was trying to dress transitional with my outfit. To make it transitional, I wore camel booties and the jacket. In the summer, the dress would be perfect with sandals. I decided to keep the accessories simple, since it was a causal event date. I got this necklace as a gift with purchase and I really love it.

This outfit sure will help you beat the Monday blues!
