Happy Wednesday! With the holidays around the corner, I am extra inspired and will be breaking out of my twice weekly blog post routine occasionally. I am very excited to add a bonus post this week, with my FIRST guest post by Bridgette of ChicBeatBlog.Com. I have been following her on Instagram for a while and love her style. Her style is so well put together and polished, so who better to give advice on how to get out of a style rut than her. This is something that happens to me every once in a while, so I can attest I found her tips helpful. Make sure to check back tomorrow for my post on What To Wear On Thanksgiving blog post.
3 Tips To Get Out Of A Style Rut By Chic Beat Blog
There is an ebb and flow when it comes to my creativity and overall eagerness to plan my looks. One minute I am oozing confidence and loving the looks that I create. The next minute I am standing in front of my closet with “nothing to wear” and feeling completely uninspired. There really is no particular reason for it. It just happens out of nowhere. Does this happen to anyone else? If this becomes a pattern, well – you have officially embarked on the beginning of a style rut.
Don’t worry – In a snap you can be revived from your style rut with 3 simple tricks– that will take you from your dull style dilemma to having with new vigor and inspiration when it comes to your wardrobe.
Add pizzazz to your uniform
I’ve said on numerous occasions that having a uniform is important – you’re go-to outfit formula. You can read about how to create your outfit formula here: http://chicbeatblog.com/2016/04/27/the-uniform/ and here http://chicbeatblog.com/2016/04/27/the-uniform/ . Even your uniform can begin to feel a little monotonous. Spruce up your uniform by elevating it with a few tweaks. My wardrobe uniform is a LBD, blazer and boots. I might switch things up by swapping my blazer for an embroidered leather jacket, adding a statement necklace and/ or adding texture with velvet booties. I’m still keeping within the lines of my uniform but making it a more interesting with these added details.
Opt for color
Black is super chic but after a while wearing black day after day can become mundane. Add pops of color to refresh your look. Color can be an instant mood booster. Some colors make us feel strong and powerful; while others make us feel the complete opposite. Let’s try a little experiment. Tomorrow when you go to pick your clothing, purposely choose a bright color to incorporate into your look. It can be an accessory or a main component of your look. Pay attention to how you feel. My guess is that you’ll feel lighter, confident and happier. Sometimes it truly is the little things that make all the difference.
Organizing a style swap with your stylish girlfriends is not only a great GNO idea; but you’ll update your wardrobe without spending any money. Hosting a swap at the end/ beginning of a season is the best time to host a swap. People are more likely to clean out their closets and are looking for new pieces to refresh their wardrobes.
Some helpful tips to hosting a clothing swap:
- Ask your friends to bring over a minimum or maximum number of clothing;
- Create a system that’s fair for taking turns shopping;
- Make sure to invite friends of all shapes and sizes. You don’t want to make any of your friends feel excluded. Some items are easy to modify to fit a variety sizes.
Falling into a style rut happens to us all. You want to be prepared for when a rut strikes. Hopefully, these tips will help you navigate your style rut this ease.
